Business Leadership Insights From Mukesh Dedhia Of Ghalla Bhansali Stock Brokers Pvt Ltd

  1. What is the best life or business advice you have received and from whom?

Advice received from my grandfather has been invaluable to me: Do everything with sincerity, responsibly, ethically and passionately.

  1. Which are your favorite books? What are your learnings from them?

Good to Great and Build to Last both by Jim Collins. While the first book talks about why some companies are able to make a big leap and others fail. And the second book talks about the successful habits of visionary companies.

  1. Any life or business lessons learned from a movie?

Since I am from the financial planning field, Baghban and Ta Ra Rum Pum have been influential for me and related to my business and my views. The first movie talks about the risk of using your retirement money for  your children . While the second movie showcases the risk of over estimating the consistency of your income and not saving enough for your future.

  1. How do you update yourself? How do you learn new things?

Economic newspapers, Business Magazines, Attending Seminars and Study Circles, Reading latest international books, Twitter, LinkedIn, writing articles, giving lectures, etc. Meeting right people is very important.

  1. What are some lessons you have learned from your life experience?

Patience, perseverance, sincerity, ethics and ability to think out of the box are the necessary virtues for any businessman.

  1. What is your advice to the younger entrepreneurs / businesspersons / professionals?

Always treat challenges as opportunities. Always be updated. Have proper control over finances.

  1. How do you motivate yourself?

Competition in itself is a great motivator. But compete with your self only. Keep on improving everyday.

  1. How do you balance work and family life?

Has always been difficult. Can say that I have failed in this respect. When I say I have failed in this respect conveys the importance of work-life balance. But now I try to take regular breaks, both short and big holidays are now planned at regular intervals. Membership of Club Mahindra has largely supported me in this task.

  1. What do you do to take care of your physical health?

Again one of my failures. Have never been consistent with gym, Yoga, morning walks, etc. But definitely very important to be a successful entrepreneur.

  1. What do you do to take care of your mental health?

Vipassana has helped me tremendously to be mentally calm and balanced for a larger part of my life.

About Mukesh Dedhia:

A CA, CFP and FRM by qualification, he is a director of Ghalla Bhansali Stock Brokers Pvt Ltd. He has also cleared two levels of CFA.

After clearing CA exams, he joined Ghalla Bhansali, Chartered Accountants as a partner. But since he was more inclined towards business, they started a sub-broking firm for equity broking and later on they acquired memberships of NSE, BSE, NSDL under the firm name of GHALLA BHANSALI STOCK BROKERS PVT LTD.

Later on, the firm felt that the investors need a 360 degree advice on their finances and hence they also started dealing in Mutual Funds and Insurance. Membership of NSDL was taken to give in-house services of DEMAT to their customers. Later on, PMS (Portfolio Management Services) license was also acquired to provide a niche service to equity investors. They have been largely successful in keeping their clients away from derivatives and speculation and investing and trading only out of their own money.
