The production department must design and follow certain standards, to ensure consistency in quality, productivity, efficiency and cost. We must also design the checking methods for ensuring compliance of each standard and also the suggested corrective actions if any deviation is found. The production team must establish the following standards and the method and frequency to check their implementation:
• Quality: It should specify minimum acceptability levels of each important parameter with respect to the quality of every article produced. (E.g. Color, size, weight, finishing, fitment, operability etc.)
• Productivity and efficiency: It should specify the expected levels of production quantity for every product, machine uptime, throughput, maximum rejection tolerance etc.
• Cost: It should specify the cost constraints for each product in terms of material, machine, manpower and other costs.
The company must have an internal mechanism to review these standards periodically and make changes, if any.
