Every production batch of each product to be manufactured by the company’s production facility must be carefully designed.
• Each such production batch must be given a unique job number or batch number.
• The job must specify the quantity, size, variety, starting date, expected end date and other relevant parameters required at each intermediate process applicable for the job.
• It must take into account the output processing capacities of various intermediate processes and define start and end dates for each one of them based on those constraints.
• It should also factor the availability of the required machines, material and manpower.
• The focus of the job design must be to minimize wastage of machine time, operator time and material.
• The job specifications must make the requirements at each intermediate department clear, enabling proper allocation of resources as soon as that job is scheduled for production.
