Sourcing of Suppliers
Find out which countries are allowed or disallowed by our government to import from.
There are various sources from which overseas suppliers can be found out. Such sources may vary in every country. Some examples are:
• Internet search, web based directories and portals
• Trade directories and yellow pages
• Embassies, consulates and trade representatives of various countries stationed in our country
• International trade fairs and exhibitions
• International trade promotion organizations
• Chambers of commerce
• Directorate of industries
• Indenting agents of foreign suppliers
• Our contacts in foreign countries
Capability and Credit-worthiness of Overseas Supplier
The supplier that we may choose for import must be capable to fulfill his contractual commitment. Their competence, credit-worthiness, reputation etc. must be verified before finalizing any contract with them. Some banks or embassies of our country in their country may also help us in obtaining some confidential reports about the supplier. The importer can also take the help of Credit Information Agencies for specific commercial information about the overseas suppliers. They may also contact Trade Information Centers of the country concerned.
Overseas Suppliers’ Agents
Some suppliers have their indenting agents in importing countries. Such an agent can help us in finalizing the contract. These agents procure orders from the importing parties and arrange for the supply of goods from their principal abroad. Sometimes, it is advisable to import through such agents as they can be readily contacted in case of any difficulty with regard to the quality of goods, payment and documentation etc.
