In some companies, few staff members are given the best employee or some such award. These awards cause more damages than benefits to the company. Of course, those who receive such an award will be pleased with it, but the rest of the people may be disappointed feeling that they are not as skilled as the winner or they are not favorites or they have some weaknesses. Those who have won, also feel happy for some time, then everything returns to normal soon.
The trick to prove that some employees are better than others, and thereby to motivate others to work harder, generally backfires. We should not do anything that divides our staff.
